Duane Allman recorded tracks for a never released solo
album at Fame Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL in January/February 1969 with the

On April 10, 2013 Rodney Hall of Fame Recording Studios send us
some copies of documents from the
Fame archives.
This list confirms that masters exist of these 8 tracks:
Duane's contract with Rick Hall's Fame Productions, Inc. and Fame Publishing
Co., Inc. was sold on May 10, 1969 to Atlantic Recording Corporation:
Tracks 2 & 4 released on:
Duane Allman: "An Anthology Volume II" (Capricorn, 1974)
Duane
Allman: "Skydog: The Duane Allman Retrospective" (Rounder Records, 2013)
Track 5 released on:
Duane Allman: "An Anthology" (Capricorn, 1972)
The Allman Brothers Band: "Dreams" (box set) (Polydor, 1989)
Duane Allman: "Skydog: The Duane Allman Retrospective" (Rounder Records, 2013)
The other tracks are not officially released.
Track 1 is released on the bootleg CD:
"One More Ride - Idlewild South Outtakes" (It's The Feel Of Music ITS-1005). The
multi-track recording of this song was later used for Johnny Jenkins' album
"Ton-Ton Macoute!" (Capricorn, 1970) with Johnny Jenkins' vocals and harmonica
and Pete Carr's acoustic guitar added.
Track 3 was mentioned in the
Duane Allman discography
that was published on the official Allman Brothers Band website until
2002and in Dean Reynolds' book "The Complete Allman Brothers Band Discography"
(2000). A recording of this song was played by Kirk West on the radio show "From
The Vaults" (WBCN, Boston, 1993).
Tracks 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 8 are mentioned in the booklet of the Allman Brothers Band box set
"Dreams" (Polydor, 1989, page 7). Track 8 is also mentioned in Scott Freeman's
book "Midnight Riders - The Story Of The Allman Brothers Band", page 37
(Little, Brown & Company, 1995).
A recording of track 6 ("Bad News") is not available, but the booklet
of "Dreams" mentions that the multi-tracks of "Dimples", "Bad News" "Down Along The Cove" were later used for Johnny Jenkins' album "Ton-Ton
Macoute!" (Capricorn, 1970).
Track 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8 are mentioned by Johnny Sandlin in the liner notes of
the 1997 CD release of Johnny Jenkins' album "Ton-Ton Macoute!" (Capricorn / PolyGram).
But in the same liner notes Johnny Sandlin also writes that only track 1 of the
Fame sessions ("Down Along The Cove") was used for Johnny Jenkins' album. All
the other tracks for "Ton-Ton Macoute!" were recorded at the Capricorn Studio in
Macon, GA and the Fame recording of "Dimples" was not used.
A recording of track 7 ("Neighbor, Neighbor") is not available.
Dimples
(one-sided acetate)
Original release:
One-sided acetate: Atlantic (?) (1969)
1. Dimples
Although 'Allman Bros.' is written on
the label, we assume that this is the version Duane Allman recorded for his solo
project in January/February 1969 at Fame Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals,
AL with Berry Oakley (Bass), Paul Hornsby (Piano, Organ) and Johnny Sandlin
(Drums).
The one-sided acetate must have been manufactured later than January/February
1969, because at that time the Allman Brothers Band didn't exist yet. Maybe it
was manufactured on July 28, 1969, as written on the label.
Another possibility is that this track was recorded during the recording
sessions for the first Allman Brothers Band album and remained unreleased.
Update September 23, 2009:
We found a recording of 'Dimples'
that does not sound
like an Allman Brothers Band recording:
This is the recording from this acetate and it is probably the version of 'Dimples' that was recorded during the January/February 1969 sessions at Fame for Duane's solo project.
